PURPOSE: A trehalose receptor and a method for detecting trehalose using the same receptor are provided, thereby easily carrying out the analysis and quantification of trehalose in mammal samples. CONSTITUTION: The trehalose receptor of mammals consists of a protein having an amino acid sequence selected from SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:5, or an amino acid sequence wherein a part of amino acids are deleted, substituted or added in the amino acid sequence selected from SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:2, SEQ ID NO:3 and SEQ ID NO:5; or a protein having an amino acid sequence selected from SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:4 and SEQ ID NO:5, or an amino acid sequence wherein a part of amino acids are deleted, substituted or added in the amino acid sequence selected from SEQ ID NO:1, SEQ ID NO:4 and SEQ ID NO:5. The method for producing an animal cell expressing the trehalose receptor on its surface comprises transforming an animal cell with an expression vector containing the gene encoding the trehalose receptor of mammals. The method for detecting trehalose comprises detecting biochemical reaction between the trehalose receptor and trehalose, wherein the biochemical reaction is detected by detecting introduction of calcium ion.
