PURPOSE: A recording device is provided to detect management information if the management information on a folder satisfies a predetermined condition, in order to manage data recorded in the recording device, and to inform a user of the detected management information, thereby easily managing information. CONSTITUTION: A management information memory(103) includes management information tables(90), and detects/stores management information which shows states of each folder recorded in the first recording/reproducing device(20). The first recording/reproducing device(20) corresponds to an HDD. A specific information memory(104) includes specific information setup tables(100), and stores prepared specific information for specifying the folders. An information comparator(105) compares the management information stored in the management information tables(90) with the specific information stored in the specific information setup tables(100), and outputs indications of result outputs to a folder state display(106). The folder state display(106) informs a user of the folder states according to the indications of the information comparator(105).
