PURPOSE: A mu/A law conversion device in an exchange and a device thereof are provided to extract the second-system code value corresponding to the first-system code value, and to convert the first-system serial voice signal into the second-system serial voice signal by using the extracted code value, thereby processing a mu/A law conversion function in serial. CONSTITUTION: An outer network connector(300) is used for connection with a local line. A system highway connector(340) is used for connection with a system highway. Memories(310,350) store a digital voice signal inputted from an outer network or the system highway. A voice switching portion(320) performs a speech channel switching function. Parallel/serial converters(330,360) convert a parallel voice signal into a serial voice signal, and transmit the serial voice signal to the outer network connector(300) or the system highway connector(340). A counter(370) designates a memory address for the parallel voice signal. A serial mu/A law converter(380) carries out a mu/A law conversion function in serial.
