PURPOSE: Provided is a monodisperse crystalline carbon nanofiber and nanotube, which have improved purity and uniformity in their mass production. The carbon nanofiber and nanotube can be formed into various shapes such as platelet, herring bone, tubular form, and suitably applied to a lithium secondary battery and an emitter of a field emission display(FED). CONSTITUTION: The monodisperse crystalline carbon nanofiber and nanotube are produced by comprising the steps of: preparing a catalyst in the form of uniform metal nanoparticles by refluxing a raw material having a composition of M(CO)x, wherein M is metal, together with a hydrocarbon compound; forming at least one of carbon nanofiber and carbon nanotube by carrying out catalyst pyrolysis of the catalyst in the form of uniform metal nanoparticles in mixed gas containing carbon monoxide; recovering the formed carbon nanofiber or carbon nanotube by cooling it to room temperature. The monodisperse carbon nanofiber or carbon nanotube can be mass-produced while keeping its high crystallinity represented by less than 0.3400nm of d002 which means the interplanar distance of hexagonal carbon.
