PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition containing a fermentation product of the extract of Banaba (Lagerstroemia spesiosa L.), Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) and Bitter Mellon as an effective ingredient is provided. The composition exhibits strong blood glucose-reducing activity and diabetic complications-reducing activity and has safety to the human body. Therefore, the composition is used for the prevention and treatment of diabetes and the reduction of diabetic complications. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition contains a fermentation product of the extract of 5 to 40% by weight of Banaba, 20 to 50% by weight of Fenugreek, 20 to 50% by weight of Bitter Mellon and additionally a vitamin mix and chrome-enriched yeast. The fermentation product of the extract is prepared by inoculating Aspergillus oryzae stains into the extract of Banaba, Fenugreek and Bitter Mellon, followed by solid-fermentation and then freeze-drying. Prior to the fermentation, soybean powder is additionally added to the extract.
