PURPOSE: A method for controlling a DVD spindle motor brake is provided to detect a rotative state of a motor by using a counter electromotive force generated while instantly cutting off an electric potential difference of a DC servo motor, thereby grasping a motor movement. CONSTITUTION: An electric potential difference generator generates an electric potential difference, and supplies the difference to a DC servo motor(201). The DC servo motor rotates by being driven with the difference(202). A motor drive holds a mute function to the DC servo motor(203). The DC servo motor reversely generates an electromotive force, and supplies an electromotive force signal to the motor drive(204). The motor drive compares the electromotive force signal with a self level, and supplies a difference to a microcomputer(205). The microcomputer decides whether the electromotive force signal is bigger than the level(206). If so, the microcomputer informs an OSD that the DC servo motor is rotating(207). The OSD outputs the results provided from the microcomputer such that a user can see whether the DC servo motor is rotating(209).
