HEMOSTATIC WOUND DRESSING CONTAINING WATER SOLUBLE OLIGOSACCHARIDE AND METHODS OF MAKING SAME IMPORTANT IN TIME REDUCTION OF SURGICAL OPERATION

PURPOSE: Provided are a hemostatic dressing for wound portion and process for hemostatic dressing treatment to inhibit excessive bleeding, minimize loss of blood, and to reduce complication after surgical operation and time required for the operation. CONSTITUTION: The dressing comprises a fabric support having first and second sides faced each other, and porous polymeric matrix uniformly distributed over the first and the second sides(32) and the fabric(30). The fabric support is useful as hemostatic material and comprises fibers prepared of bio-compatible carboxylic acid oxidative cellulose. The porous matrix comprises water-expandable cellulose polymer(36) and, in addition to, 3wt.% of water-soluble oligosaccharide. The matrix has numerous pores with diameter of 10 to 400 micrometers or more and provides polymeric surface area sufficient to allow inter-reaction of the matrix with body liquid.
