PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting electromagnetic waves of a mobile communication terminal, and a method therefor, are provided to protect a user of a mobile communication terminal from electromagnetic waves bad for the human body. CONSTITUTION: For a telephone conversation, a user of a mobile communication terminal puts the mobile communication terminal closely on an ear of a head(501). A position/angle sensor installed at a main body of the mobile communication terminal senses position/angle between the head and the mobile communication terminal(502). An SAR(Specific Absorption Rate) changes according to the sensed position/angle(503). A position/angle change sensor installed at the mobile communication terminal senses position/angle affecting the SAR of the mobile communication terminal, and the changing SAR is calculated(504). It is judged whether the SAR exceeds an allowable reference affecting the human body(505). If so, the mobile communication terminal warns the user so that the user uses the mobile communication terminal at a place having the least electromagnetic waves(506).
