Composition (I) for controlling airborne microorganisms by diffusion into the air in an enclosed space comprises 2-phenylphenol, thymol and a heat-vaporizable solvent. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) A process for controlling airborne microorganisms by diffusion of (I) into the air in an enclosed space by thermal vaporization. (2) Use of a catalytic combustion bottle to carry out the process, where the bottle has a flanged neck (10) for receiving a catalytic combustion burner (6) having an axial cavity with an open bottom receiving a wick (8) immersed in a combustible (4) liquid contained in the bottle (2).
