PURPOSE: A method for providing a call background sound in a communication system is provided to conveniently use a call background sound service at low cost. CONSTITUTION: A background sound source to be provided in the middle of a call conversion between an calling terminal and an called terminal, and a telephone number of the called terminal to which the background sound source is transmitted are registered for a service(201-203). When a call is originated, an calling switching system extracts a telephone number of the calling terminal for confirming whether the telephone number is a call background sound service subscriber number(204). If not, the calling switching system recognizes the call as a general call for directly relaying the originated call to the called switching system(206). The calling switching system extracts the called telephone number for examining whether the called telephone number is a service-registered number(205). If not, the calling switching system recognizes the originated call as a general call for directly relaying the originated call to the called switching system(206). The calling switching system relays the originated call originated to the service-registered called number to the called switching system through a communication provider background sound control and transmission IP(Intellectual Peripheral)(207). The communication provider background sound control and transmission IP transmits the corresponding background sound to the calling and called terminals at the same time(208-209).
