A method for the extraction and isolation of santonin of artemisia sp, comprising the steps of:(a) extracting the air-dried, powdered, aerial proportion of plants of the artemisia sp. with a not - polar solvent in a soxhlet apparatus - an apparatus in a ratio of 1: 6;(b) of the concentrate from the extraction solvent under reduced pressure originating;(c) releasing of the concentrate in a 7: 3 to 9: 1 - mixture of hexane - ethyl acetate and distributing with an aqueous polar solvent;(d) separating the water from the aqueous polar phase by adding sodium chloride in an amount of from 5 to 8 g per 100 ml of solution;(e) drying of the polar part over anhydrous sodium sulfate, concentrated and partition chromatography over silica gel and an elution with n - hexane, followed by an elution with ethyl acetate in n - hexane, wherein the ratio of n - hexane and ethyl acetate, 5: 5 to 7: 3, is;(f) removing the solvent from fractions containing santonin;..
