Window or door sill linked to surrounding brickwork by expansion seal

A window or door sill (10) provides a water run-off surface (14) to brickwork (20) from which the sill is separated by a gap (18). The gap is closed by a seal (16) which is bonded to the sill lower face. The seal is a foam substance compressed within a thin tube with a rip-line. Following installation of the seal, the thin tube is torn away by e.g. tear-strip or thread, releasing the foam (16) to fill the gap.
