A method for cutting a tunnel and erecting an overhead railway to take away the spoil and deliver materials has the railway track fitted to pendant supports (7) secured to the reinforcing of the sprayed concrete tunnel liner. The pendant supports comprise threaded stock to which are fitted anchoring plates and nuts etc. The supports are aligned with the existing track using lasers to ensure a precision track. The overhead railway is powered by electric motors fed via power rails fitted alongside the track. Track lengths are added with the sprayed concrete liner, as is the extension of the tunnel floor.
