An optical system for a camera has at least one first object-side focusing optics, a second image-side focusing optics and field of view aperture and a image-sensor between the two. The optical system has a decoupling- or deflection-unit for conveying a light-beam from an object and then defined by the field-of-view aperture, and broken down into at least two part-bundles of rays which are recorded by the image-sensor parallel or successively for increasing the light/dark dynamics of the camera. Independent claims are included (A) for a vehicle environment observation camera and (B) a method for image recording for a vehicle observation camera.
