The optical device has a homogenizing element (1) with 2 pairs of facing total internal reflection side faces (5,6; 9,10), receiving the individual output beams provided by a number of laser diodes positioned in a line with their active surfaces in a common plane and directing them to a light output end face (4) on the opposite side to the light input end face (3). The corresponding side edges of one pair of total internal reflection side faces diverge away from one another from the input end face to the output end face, a second pair of total internal reflection side faces tapering towards one another between the input and output end faces.
