Method for automatically determining an approach to a stopping point, whereby a vehicle positioning system is used to determine a vehicle's actual position relative to the stopping point and, dependent on the distance to the station, the speed the vehicle is to travel over a trajectory to the stopping point is calculated. The speed and trajectory are then controlled over the path by comparing actual and set operating parameters and adjusting the vehicle actuators accordingly. An Independent claim is made for an arrangement for automatic calculation of a motor vehicle's approach to a stopping point.
