Device for positioning and or moving a surgical instrument in an operating space within a human or animal body (2). The device comprises kinematic positioning elements as well as instrument carrying operative kinematic elements. The positioning and operating elements have independent links and adjustment members with corresponding drives. An independent claim is made for a device for positioning and or moving a surgical instrument in an operating space within a human or animal body that has motor driven kinematic elements with an instrument (4) or its mounting held in a fixed point with the instrument pivoting about an axis and moving in a circular path.
