The method involves adjusting the stroke of the gas-exchange valves and subsequently evaluating the changing of crankshaft acceleration. The exceeding of crankshaft acceleration over a threshold value is directly determined from crankshaft speed, captured after adjusting the stoke of the gas-exchange valve.
