The method involves dosing ink quantities depending on coverage data for a printing surface. In addition to the mean surface coverage of the printing surface, the distribution of the surface coverage on the printed surface is taken into account for the dosing. Raster width compensation is carried out in the form of a correction dependent on the mean surface coverage for setting the at least one ink dosing element.
