Card wire (47), as wound into a coil (15) for fitting to an opening roller, is treated chemically in a bath to remove burrs. To facilitate liquid flow, the coil is held while extended axially so that adjacent turns of the coil do not touch. Several coils are held in a spider by securing them at their ends by setscrews. The spider then is rotated while submerged in the bath.
