The guide device for the guiding of camera dollies or carriages (1) with running rollers (2a) has a rail profile (3) with a guide slot (4) open at the top, the cross section of which is determined by the outer contour of the running rollers. The guide slot has a U or V cross section. The rail profile may be curved in the longitudinal direction. The rail profile lies upon a support surface, whereby the lower apex point of the slot is contiguous to the support surface. The guide device may have two rail profiles spaced apart and parallel to one another.
