A support surface (7, 9) mounted on top of a support (8) is located to the side of the timber drive shaft(s) (2, 3) and includes grooves or slots facing the shaft(s). The debarking device (1) has at least one drive shaft for the timber being debarked. The shaft length direction extends substantially parallel to the length direction of the timber.
