The chair has an extending footrest (1) which is mounted on a compound lever system made up of two pairs of parallel levers. One pair (4, 5) is attached to the footrest and the other pair (6, 7) to the chair. Two levers (4, 6), one from each pair, cross and are held together by a pivot. Pairs of levers are connected by additional strips (12, 13).
