The spray device has a jet nozzle (1) supplied with liquid carbon dioxide from a pressurised source (5) upstream of the nozzle through an adaptor with one or more inlets for one or more connectors (3,4). The volume(s) of the inlets is such that in relation to the supplied amount of liquid CO2 there is a substantial conversion into dry snow through relaxation before the CO2 enters into the gaseous or liquid jet from the pressurised source (6) of gas or liquid. Perforated grids or discs can be provided directly at or in front of the entrance of the liquid CO2 phase into the adaptor supply inlets to improve relaxation.
