Compact drive unit for lift with one sided support is mounted on the top of a support rail for the lift cage and a diametrically opposite support rail for the ballast weight

A compact drive unit for a lift has the lift cage supported on two vertical guide rails (2.1, 2.2) on one side of the lift shaft with the ballast weight supported between two vertical guide rails (3.1, 3.2) between the cage rails and the shaft wall. The drive unit is mounted at the top of the rails and is supported by one ballast weight support rail (3.2) and the diametrically opposite cage support rail (2.1). These two rails extend upwards beyond the other two rails sufficiently to house the drive unit, comprising a gearless motor (4a), a winch (4b) and a brake (4c). The drive unit is supported on a platform fitted to the rails. The cables lie parallel to the support rails with the centre of mass of the system between the four rails.
