An electromagnetic linear actuator including a fixed ring-shaped assembly (10) with a magnetic outer shield (16), a magnetic inner core (20) and monostable or bistable control members (18) interchangeably mounted therebetween. An assembly (12) movable along the axis (14) of the fixed assembly (10) includes two magnetic plates (34, 36) facing the ends of the fixed assembly and a rod (30) slidably mounted in the core (20). The rod (30) may be made of a material selected for its frictional characteristics. Said actuator is preferably used to control the valves of a propellant flow controller in a satellite motor fuel supply system.
