Producing banded cloth coloring, immerses it in dye bath on carrier which is extracted, turned slightly, and re-immersed into further baths of different color

The cloth (1), wet or dry, is placed on a carrier (2). Dipping into a dye bath (3) to a predetermined level, treats only a section of the cloth. The carrier lifted out and driven through a set angle to displace the treated section of cloth. A fresh section is similarly treated in a different dye bath. The operation is repeated until the cloth has been treated completely. A series of colored bands results, their widths depending on the depth of immersion. Optionally the carrier is oscillated during immersion. The cloth is bunched and optionally twisted more or less tightly, before placing on the carrier. Color reserves are optionally created. The cloth is optionally laid flat on the carrier, and several turns are wound-on. An Independent claim is included for corresponding apparatus.
