The apparatus has a detecting device to determine the temperature of an emission control catalyst. A clutch controlling device increases the degree of engagement of a clutch (C0, C1, C2) if the temperature of the emission control catalyst detected by the detecting device is less than a reference temperature, when the device is about to decrease the degree of engagement of the clutch. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a vehicle including a driving wheel (b) a method for activating an emission control catalyst.
