To solve a problem that there is a possibility that data might be output from an output layer of a mapping that has been learned through machine learning beyond an allowable data range.SOLUTION: A CPU acquires an acquisition value through acquisition processing (S10). The CPU inputs the acquisition value to a mapping and calculates a catalyst temperature Tcat (S14). When the catalyst temperature Tcat calculated in S14 exceeds an upper limit guard value UL (No in S18), the catalyst temperature Tcat is reset to a value identical to the upper limit guard value UL through guard processing. When the catalyst temperature Tcat calculated in S14 exceeds a lower limit guard value LL (No in S20), the catalyst temperature Tcat is reset to a value identical to the lower limit guard value LL through the guard processing (S24).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
