Nanocapsules comprise water-insoluble polymeric envelope comprising polysilsesquioxane (I) shell and a lipid core comprising a lipophilic active ingredient. Nanocapsules comprise a water-insoluble polymeric envelope comprising polysilsesquioxane shell, preferably of formula (RSiO3/2)x (I) and a lipid core comprising a lipophilic active ingredient. R = optionally halogenated linear, branched, cyclic and optionally saturated hydrocarbyl, e.g. CnH2n+1 (methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl, hexadecyl, octadecyl, eicosyl, phenyl, tolyl, cyclobutyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, vinyl, allyl, 2-phenylethyl or benzyl (optionally substituted with one or more F or Cl); n = 1-20; and x = 1-10. Independent claims are also included for: (1) aqueous suspension (C1) containing the nanocapsules; (2) cosmetic or pharmaceutical composition (C2) containing the nanocapsules or suspension; (3) production of the nanocapsules by dissolving the polysilsesquioxane, a lipid phase comprising the active ingredient and optionally a coating agent in a water-miscible organic solvent, adding the solution to an aqueous surfactant solution while stirring, and evaporating off the solvent and optionally part of the aqueous phase.
