Transmission of wireless data between a transmitter and a receiver involves implementing a simple carrier pilot signal (CPICH) and a first data transmission signal transmitted in accordance with multiple carrier modulation. The response of the transmission channel of the data transmission signal is estimated by an estimation unit (60), where the estimation process takes into account the simple carrier pilot signal. The frequency band utilized for the pilot signal on the transmission channel includes the frequency band utilized for the transmission signal.
