Radio frequency tags 10 are attached to machines 4 (eg domestic machines, eg washing machines) before being sold. Information is read from the tags and stored on a database. The tags 10 are then subsequently read by portable readers 36 used by service engineers. The reader can access stored information and obtain and display information regarding stock control, servicing and repair of the machine.
