A surface cleaning apparatus comprises a body (106) and an elongate rotatable brush arrangement (116) extends transversely within the body and has bristles (118) which protrude through an opening provided in the base of the body. A movable front portion is provided on the body (106) adjacent to the brush arrangement (116) and is adapted to increase the exposure of the bristles of the brush arrangement, in particular to the front of the apparatus.
