PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for simply producing a high-purity N-long chain acylglycine salt in a high yield, to provide a crystal of the salt, having a new crystalline form excellent in solubility and dispersibility in water, and to provide a detergent composition containing the crystal.;SOLUTION: This crystal of the N-long chain acylglycine salt is produced by reacting glycine with an 8-22C saturated or unsaturated fatty acid halide in a specified mixed solution of a hydrophilic organic solvent and water in the presence of an alkali substance in a specified pH range, so as to obtain a reaction liquid comprising the hydrophilic organic solvent and the water in a specified mixing ratio, then making the reaction liquid directly crystallized, so that the crystal which scarcely contains inorganic salts and is highly pure is found to be extremely simply obtained in a high recovery ratio of crystallization with high acylation purity. The crystal of the N-long chain acylglycine salt thus obtained shows diffraction peaks at two or more angles of diffraction (2θ±0.3°) selected from 24.0°, 25.5°, 28.0°, and 40.5°, when measured by powder X-ray diffractometry using CuKα rays, so that the crystalline form thereof is different from those of well-known crystals of the N-long chain acylglycine salt. Therefore, a pulverized material of the crystal has excellent handleability and is excellent in the solubility and dispersibility in water.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
