PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conversion catalyst for ethylbenzene-containing xylenes and a conversion method using the catalyst, in details, a method in which ethylbenzene-containing xylenes are subjected to hydrogenation/dealkylation of ethylbenzene to produce benzene and ethane at a high level, and at the same time, loss of xylene is reduced when isomerizing o-xylene and m-xylene to p-xylene.;SOLUTION: For the conversion catalyst, an X-ray diffraction intensity ratio of crystal lattice plane space d of 0.386±0.008 nm to crystal lattice plane space d of 0.196±0.002 nm, is 100:7 to 100:35. In this conversion method, the catalyst is brought into contact with ethylbenzene-containing xylenes in the presence of hydrogen.
