PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cermet made cutting tool with a hard coating layer exerting excellent chipping resistance under high-speed heavy cutting conditions.;SOLUTION: The hard coating layer of 1-15 μm in average layer thickness is formed on the surface of a cermet substrate by physical vapor deposition. The hard coating layer has a structure in which a CrN phase is dispersed and distributed on a substrate made of (Ti, Al, and B) N at a rate of 0.3-10 area% in cross section analysis by an Auger spectroscopic analyzer. The substrate made of (Ti, Al, and B) N has a component concentration distribution structure, in which the maximum content point of Al and the minimum content point of Al alternately and repeatedly exist along in the layer thickness direction at prescribed intervals and a content rate of Al and that of Ti from the maximum content point of Al to the minimum content point of Al and from the minimum content point of Al to the maximum content point of Al continuously fluctuate.
