PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine and a method of assembling the shield machine for constructing large cross section tunnels of various dimensions by diverting the same small shield machine unit.;SOLUTION: A rear drum of the shield machine 1a is divided in a rear drum front part 5 and a rear drum rear part 3 behind a mounting part of a shield jack 35. A skin plate 25 of the rear drum front part 5 is divided in two right and left parts, and a front drum 9 is divided in four units 13 in the axial direction of a machine body. An intermediate body 45 is arranged between the skin plate 25a and the skin plate 25b and between vertically arranged units 13a, 13d and units 13b, 13c. The unit 13 and the rear drum front part 5 are connected at a bent part 7, and the rear drum front part 5 and the intermediate body 45 are fixed to the front end face of the skin plate 19a. The units 13a, 13d and the units 13b, 13c are integrated through an end plate 43. Four units 13 and the intermediate body 45 are not connected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
