PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a culture system useful for researching environmental protection technology and testing the toxicity of an injurious factor or injurious substance against organisms by long period exposure, to provide a method for maintaining the culture system, and to provide a method for utilizing the culture system to evaluate an environmental effect given by chemical and/or physical irritation.;SOLUTION: This culture system comprises Daphnia pulex, Tubifex, animal planktons and/or plant planktons, decayed organic substances, and water. The method for maintaining the culture system is characterized by holding the culture system at 15 to 30°C under irradiation. The method for evaluating the environmental effect given by chemical and/or physical irritation comprises giving the chemical and/or physical irritation to the culture system, holding the culture system at 15 to 30°C under irradiation for a prescribed period, and then observing the living states of the Daphnia pulex and/or the Tubifex.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
