PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To combine a plasma display panel provided with structure which is fit for deriving the largest emission efficiency using this display method and a driving method by which each coplanar discharge is started by a matrix discharge.;SOLUTION: Each of a basic electric discharge region is 2 matrix discharge regions and this is subdivided into the matrix discharge regions each of which are positioned in an intersecting part of one of the coplanar electrodes Y and an address electrode X and one coplanar discharge region between the coplanar electrode Y and Y'.
