PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a graphite-amorphous carbon composite material for manufacturing a battery which has excellent quick charge and discharge characteristics, cycle characteristics, and electrode density characteristics, hardly causes decomposition of an electrolyte, and has excellent safety, and a method for producing the same; a negative electrode for a battery which is expected to achieve a high capacity and a high energy density; and the battery. PSOLUTION: In the method for producing the graphite-amorphous carbon composite material obtained by combining a graphite part with an amorphous carbon part, the polymerization of the precursor of the amorphous carbon part is carried out in the presence of a dehydrogenation acid catalyst. A preferable dehydrogenation acid catalyst contains a sulfonic acid including an aromatic compound. Further, it is preferable that the material of the graphite part contains artificial graphite, the artificial graphite consisting of graphite particles wherein a plurality of plate-like particles assemble or combine with each other in a nonparallel state.
