PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling tension of a letting-off device for a sizer by which the stability at a low tension is increased even if a beam diameter is changed from the large one to the small one by the speeding-up of the sizer to enable a continuous high-speed operation.;SOLUTION: Two motors of a tension-controlling motor M1 and a mechanical loss-correcting motor M2 are installed. The tension-controlling motor is used at the braking side at the operation in a low tension range even if the wound diameter of the letting-off beam 5 under operation is changed and a tension-regulating electrical current is reduced. The mechanical loss-correcting motor is used in a power running side even if the mechanical loss is increased by the increase of the rotation of the letting-off beam to prevent the use in the region at which the direction of the electrical current is changed. As a result, a hunting phenomenon at the low tension region is eliminated to enable the stable tension control to be carried out. At the operation in a high-tension region, the mechanical loss-correcting motor is used as an assistant motor for the tension-controlling motor when the shortage of the braking power is caused to enlarge the tension range.
