PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cemented-carbide-made solid gear cutter having a tooth section exhibiting high heat-resistant plastic deformability with high-speed gear cutting.;SOLUTION: On the surface of the solid gear cutter body made of tungsten-carbide-based cemented carbide having a shape where a plurality of tooth sections that face tooth grooves and are formed of front and rear surfaces, the top surface, and both side surfaces disposed between tooth grooves of the gear cutter are continuously formed in the longitudinal direction, (a) the flank has an average thickness of 0.1-5 μm, and a thermal insulating substrate layer made of a complex nitride layer of Ti and Al satisfying the composition formula (Ti1-XAlX)N (where, X is 0.40-0.65 in atomic ratio) is physically vapor-deposited, (b) the whole surfaces of the solid gear cutter body including the tooth sections formed by the front and rear surfaces, the top surface, and both side surfaces have an average thickness of 0.9-15 μm, and a hard coated layer made of a complex nitride layer of Ti and V satisfying the composition formula (Ti1-ZVZ)N (where, Z is 0.25-0.50 in atomic ratio) is physically vapor-deposited.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
