PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain change of a status of a printer required by a host computer by required minimum status. PSOLUTION: The printer selects a status to be an object of automatic status transmission among a plurality of prescribed statuses according to a prescribed command received from a host system and effectively sets the automatic status transmission. When the status as the selected object of the automatic status transmission is varied after the automatic status transmission is effectively set, the printer automatically transmits status data of a plurality of the prescribed statuses to the host system. The command includes a parameter consisting of a plurality of bits corresponding to the plurality of statuses respectively and indicates whether or not each bit value selects corresponding statuses.
