PURPOSE: To indicate failure correctly to a failure extracting process, and print and detect marks readable without being influenced by the printed pattern or the like of web by providing a means for generating marks corresponding to failure information, and a means for printing the marks on the web. ;CONSTITUTION: An arithmetic unit (mark generating means) 1 computes to generate marks corresponding to inputted failure information. A mark printing part (mark printing means) 2 prints the marks on web on the basis of data outputted from the arithmetic unit 1. A failure detecting part 3 outputs failure information to the arithmetic unit 1. A production machine 4 applies printing, machining, and the like to the web. A paper feeding part unwinds the web 7 of a wound body, and a paper discharge part 6 winds the web 7 to form a wound body. Failure positions and failure contents are thereby indicated correctly to a failure extracting process, and marks readable without being influenced by the printed pattern or the like of the web can be printed and detected.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
