PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device having an inorganic electrically insulating layer and an exposed semiconductor surface by a method, wherein an electrically insulating zinc phosphorate coating is formed on the exposed surface of a zinc oxide layer except its end parts. ;SOLUTION: Respective electrodes 26 have exposed contact parts 28, which are to be connected electrically to conductive metal end parts 30 which cover the end regions 32 of a main part 22 and are to be brought into contact with the electrodes 26. The portion of the main part 22, which is not covered by the end parts 30, is covered with an electrically insulating zinc phosphorate layer 34. The end parts 30 are plated with conductive metal layers 36 which form the electrical contact parts of a resistance device 20. Before the device is subjected to barrel plating, an electrically insulating inorganic layer is formed on a portion of the device. As the main part becomes conductive and the inorganic layer is not conductive, the coated portion of the main part is not plated with the conductive metal.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
