PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an indenter load device by which the contact point of an indenter with a sample is detected precisely by a method wherein a load which is suitable for the investigation on the surface of the sample is given to an indenter lever. ;SOLUTION: An electromagnetic indenter load device 21 is arranged at the base end part of an indenter lever 2 which is provided with an indenter 1 at the tip. An electromagnetic coil 22a whose resolution is higher than that of a focus coil 22b for an indenter load is attached to the load device 21 in addition to the focus coil. The surface of a sample is investigated by the electromagnetic coil 22a. Thereby, an overload to the sample is eliminated, and the contact point of the indenter 1 with the sample can be detected precisely.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
