PURPOSE:To enable a viewer to respond easily and surely to an interactive bidirectional program by multiplexing and broadcasting menu information which can be selected by a receiving person, and information for indicating the timing to display and erase the menu information on the side of a receiver. CONSTITUTION:When a menu display command signal is received from a broadcasting station, a menu program stored in a DRAM 23 is activated, the display image of a menu is formed from the received menu information onto a VRAM 25, and the overlay display of that image is performed on the screen of an image receiving tube 16. From the time point when this menu is displayed, a TV receiver is switched to a menu selection mode and when the viewer operates the button of a commander 34 within prescribed time from the display starting time point of the menu, the processing corresponding to a change object command and a menu selection command is performed. In the case of a deciding command, the selected item of the menu is automatically transmitted through a modem 33 to a telephone number preserved on a DRAM 35.
