PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and quickly retrieve a scene desired of a user, even if unknown words other than words or keywords which have been previously registered in a dictionary or the like or an uncertain keyword inputted by the user is used for the retrieval of an image/sound. SOLUTION: A scene-retrieving system, capable of quickly retrieving an image/sound scene required by a user and quickly reproducing the retrieved scene by dividing a series of sound recognition processing means and applying the divided procedures to the generation of retrieving data and retrieving processing, is provided with a retrieving data generation part 100 for extracting a feature pattern from a sound signal in synchronization with a video signal and generating an index for retrieving an image and a retrieving processing part 200 for retrieving a required image, by collating a keyword inputted from a retriever with the index.
