The lift (1) has a counterweight (5) whose weight is equal to the weight of the lifting cage (2) multiplied by ca. 30-70 % of the maximum weight of the load (V) which can be lifted. The counterweight preferably has a weight approximately equal to the weight of the cage multiplied by half the maximum load.
