A process for preparing an intermediate compound of formula (II) where n is an integer of from 3 to 14; RSUP1 /SUPis haloCSUB1-10/SUBalkyl, CSUB1-10/SUBalkyl, CSUB2-10/SUBalkenyl, CSUB2-10/SUBcycloalkyl, carboxyCSUB1-10/SUBalkyl, CSUB1-10/SUBalkoxycarbonylCSUB1-10/SUBalkyl, aryl (such as phenyl), aryl(CSUB1-10/SUB)alkyl (such as phenyl(CSUB1-10/SUB)alkyl) or di(CSUB1-6/SUBalkyl)amino; and RSUP2 /SUPis a halo group; the process comprising halogenation of a compound of formula (III) where n and RSUP1 /SUPare as defined above. Novel compounds are also described and claimed.
